Caslon Publishing was looking to build a online companion website to accompany their textbooks. PilotLight developed a Django powered application that provides access to additional learning materials and provides a place for students and professors to interact.

A registration application was developed for this site to limit access to those who had purchased a copy of a textbook. A unique registration code is supplied with each textbook and links a user to a specific community (there is one for each textbook) to provide access to all of the appropriate resources.

Custom collaboration tools (wiki, discussion board, and others) were developed so students and professors can interact within each chapter of the book as well as globally. Professors are given special tools to monitor their students' activities as well as access to professor-only content.

Quizzes that are provided in the textbooks were added to the website in an interactive format. Students can complete these quizzes and have them graded automatically. Quiz results are sent to their professor for review.

This website has been very successful for Caslon Publishing and hundreds of students use the site every day.
