HarrisMartin provides an extensive, online database of documents and articles for the Legal profession.

For years HarrisMartin had operated using a custom website developed in Cold Fusion. The old site had served its purpose, but it was time to move to a modern platform. PilotLight worked with [whitepenny] to develop a new Django-based site as well as migrate all of the articles and user information from their old site.

The new site provides custom search functionality, ecommerce (sales, subscriptions, and conference registrations), as well as a very extensive content management system from which the entire website can be managed.

This project provided some unique challenges due to the fact that there were many active users on the site as well as a extensive amount of content (articles). A ton of data has to be migrated and it needed to be done in a way that kept downtime to a minimum during the transition. PilotLight's solution was to develop a set of custom applications to automate the data migration between the development site's MSSQL backend and the new site's MySQL backend. A combination of careful planning and automation led to a very successful launch of the new site with no downtime.
